the process and timescales

The process varies and is not set in stone. As a general guide this works well:

  1. We have a chat before the project begins regarding what the client is looking for in terms of functionality and therefore technology.
If you do not laready have a wel-specified brief the typical questions that need asking include:
Does the site have any special requirements that will need a developer involved?
Is search engine optimisation important, or can this be sacrificed for rich media technologies?
How will the site be updated - via CMS software, or by us as a service?
  2. You create designs based on the brief you have from the client.
  3. I have a quick look over the designs to see if anything would be expensive or 'impossible' to build before the client gets too excited!
  4. You go through the cycle of getting the designs approved. Sometimes you will need to layout most pages. Some clients expect this & some designers feel it should be done. I do not need this - but I don't mind if you do. All I need is enough to show the 'house style' and any special pages where the design changes significantly.
  5. Once approved, you supply me with design files to begin coding the templates. The development website is built either on your server, the client's server or, if you are comfortable, one of my servers. Search engines won't find the site.
  6. While the templates are being built you can gather together the content required to complete the site.
  7. Once completed and tested I upload the site to the client's server, or supply you with the site to upload.
  8. The last stage is for me to supply you with all source files used in the project so you have a complete copy of everything.

Timescales

How fast the project is built usually depends on how quickly the content can be collated and how quickly your client can respond to questions or sign off completion. Most small sites can be built within 24 hours from ordering with larger more complex websites requiring 3 to 4 days.

Tight deadlines are met by overnight and weekend working. ALL work is done in-house by myself - nothing is subcontracted.
