supplying website content
Organising the supply of a website's content is vital to achieve a timely completion.
How a website looks is usually at the top of a client's priorities, so much so that sometimes the content is overlooked! Taking stock of the content at the earliest opportunity ensures an early completion. There are a number of formats I can work with, and a couple best avoided!
- Copy
Can be supplied in Word or plain text format or embedded in your PSD or PDF files. Plain text format is the cleanest, and Word is ideal, but all copy is checked once formatted into HTML to remove non-standard entities (characters). Large amounts of copy supplied on paper, or copy supplied in jpeg images which needs to be typed in will usually incur extra charges! Excel and Powerpoint documents are also accepted, along with good-old emails! - Hidden copy
'Thank you' pages and 'Error' pages for contact forms are often overlooked! - Metadata
Every page will have a hidden Title and Description tags which the client may wish to specify. If not specified I will use common sense to create. I will also include a set of obvious keywords for the Keyword metatag however, this tag is largely ignored by major search engines. - Gallery & product images
Higher the quality the better. Everything will be optimised for web delivery. Super-sized images can usually be reduced in size before supplying to save time sending over. Few images on a website are over 1000px wide - unless high quality printable images are required for download. - Downloadable files
Usually PDFs - any downloads should be 'ready to go'. Word and Excel documents for download (and which do not have forms to be completed electronically) are usually converted to PDFs by myself. - Video
Most formats are accepted. All web video delivery is via flash video (fla) which I can encode. I am shortly moving to new formats which will be compatible with iphones and ipads. Basic video editing is available. - Audio
All formats are accepted as I have a professional audio post-production studio. I am able to offer full editing, mixing and mastering
Sending files
Most files can be emailed directly. For larger files you can use services such as YouSendIt. If you have access to your own web server you can upload large files and provide me with a link. I am also able to provide ftp access to one of my servers for file uploading.
When sending any type of file, and especially when sending a collection of files I recommend zipping them up or using StuffIt to ease the process. As a last resort a CD or DVD in the post is an option!
